Medical care

Emergency treatment and non hospital first aid are free for all visitors to the Czech Republic. You must pay for any other hospital care. We recommend you to arrange at your country a travel insurance policy that covers medical treatment abroad.

In an emergency dial 155 otherwise make an appointment in some hospital or clinic. Some of the best are:

  • Na Homolce Hospital, Roentgenova 2, Praha 5, dial 252 922 146, 252 922 191 (8 am - 4 pm) or 257 211 111 (after hours emergency). 
  • Canadian Medical Center, Veleslavinska 30, Praha 6, phone 235 360 133, 235 366 160 or 724 300 301 (after hours emergency). It is very small private clinic, you will pay  for an appointment.
  • American Medical Center, Janovskeho 48, Praha 7. Small private medical clinic, you will pay for an appointment.
  • First Medical Clinic, Vysehradska 35, Praha 2, phone 601 225 050. It is another small private medical clinic.

Very important emergency numebr is also for firemen. In need please dial 150.

Calling the emergency numbers mentioned also above (150, 155 and 158) is free of charge however they should not be abused!

 

 

Post

There are a bunch of post offices open on weekdays from 8 am to 6 pm. The main post office at Jindrisska 14 (close to the metro station Mustek) is open daily from 7 am to 8 pm. You can also buy stamps there, but it's better to buy them at tobacco shops or newsstands (near each metro station). Be prepared to wait in a long line. Letters go in the orange boxes around the city.
